Best Ethereum ETFs Ranked by Performance, Fees, and Strategy

How to Image

Ethereum ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds) have become a popular choice for investors looking to gain exposure to ETH, one of the biggest cryptocurrencies by market capitalization, without directly holding the asset. You don’t hold ETH, but you’re investing in a fund that does — essentially owning it via proxy.

Whether you’re spooked by exploits, the perils of DEFi, or weary of volatile ETH price swings, Ethereum ETFs provide a regulated and relatively stable alternative.

So which Ethereum ETF is the best? That’s a good question. And that’s today’s mission —, helping you choose the best ETH ETF based on performance, fees, and strategy. If you’re ready to invest in crypto but want the security of traditional finance, you’re in the right place. Let’s get after it

Understanding Types of Ethereum ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds)

Before ranking the top funds, here’s a quick primer on the types of ETH ETFs you’ll encounter. Not all exchange traded funds are the same, and understanding their nuances can help you make more informed investment decisions.

  1. Spot Ethereum ETFs – the best Ethereum spot ETFs directly track the current price of Ethereum. Translation? Their value will rise or fall in line with ETH’s market value. It’s an exposure play, similar to buying a gold ETF. You’re not buying real gold, but exposing yourself to the gold market.
  2. Futures Ethereum ETFs – Futures are some of the best Ethereum ETF products. They are based on Ethereum futures contracts rather than ETH’s current price. These may experience minor discrepancies compared to the actual market price of Ethereum.
  3. Thematic/Blockchain ETFs – These funds don’t just track Ethereum but focus on exposure to the broader blockchain ecosystem, including ETH-aligned platforms or services. Think Coinbase and random tech stocks like AMD and BTC miners like Riot and MARA.

When on the hunt for the best Ethereum ETF, approach it the same as you would a crypto project. It’s all about due diligence and research. Know what you’re buying.

Top Ethereum ETFs Ranked

To streamline your decision-making, here’s a comprehensive table summarizing the top Ethereum ETFs. All statistics and graphs will be sourced from Robinhood for the sake of consistency.

Fidelity Ethereum Fund (FETH)Fidelity.25$1.18BRetail investors preferring Fidelity products
Bitwise Ethereum ETF (ETHW)Bitwise.2$252.29MThese guys specialize in crypto. If you have a background in the industry, it could be a good fit.
VanEck Ethereum ETF (ETHV)VanEck.2$115.85MLong-term holders who want something with less volatility (low volume and no options availability)
Franklin Ethereum Trust (EZET)Franklin Templeton.19$34MAn investor who wants low fees and low volume funds.
21Shares Core Ethereum ETF (CETH)21 Shares.21$21.77MCurrently, the cheapest ETF on the market.
Invesco Galaxy Ethereum ETF (QETH)Invesco and Galaxy.25$21.08MThis is probably the worst option of the whole lot.

1. iShares Ethereum Trust (ETHA)

With a hefty AUM of over $4B, BlackRock’s iShares Ethereum Trust is a powerhouse. Ideal for institutions, this ETF has a reasonable fee of 0.25%, making it a cost-effective option for bulk investments. Plus, with BlackRock’s reputation, investors can feel confident about the trust’s overall stability.

2. Grayscale Ethereum Trust (ETHE)

We’re old-school crypto people at Dypto Crypto. And with many of us having backgrounds in DeFi, we love our fees. But we don’t love paying them — especially when they’re 10x the competition.

Grayscale’s ETHE does have an impressive AUM of $2.78B. This product is geared towards institutional investors who want something highly liquid, which it is, and has options capability, which it does. So it serves the purpose Grayscale wants it to serve.

3. Grayscale Ethereum Mini Trust (ETH)

Grayscale’s Mini Trust might be the best Ethereum ETF for retail users. With a fee of just 0.15% and an AUM of over $1 billion, it’s one of the most affordable ways to start investing while adhering to a regulated framework. For you options traders out there, this ETF will suit your needs, but only if you’re willing to play monthly.

4. Fidelity Ethereum Fund (FETH)

Some investors, particularly institutional, are really picky about their funds. While it has the same fee as BlackRock, it lacks the AUM and volume that its competitor possesses. However, if you’re a Fidelity fan (or just hate BlackRock for some reason), this is your only option for the best Ethereum ETF to invest in.

5. Bitwise Ethereum ETF (ETHW)

.

Low volume, love AUM, but a modest fee. Seems a bit “meh” at first glance. But Bitwise is a group of crypto-specializing investing professionals. They aren’t getting the love the big names get, but they take the digital asset game seriously. If you want a crypto fund by crypto pros, go with this one. It’s reasonably priced as well.

6. VanEck Ethereum ETF (ETHV)

This ETH ETF has low AUM and volume, but a reasonable fee. There are no options available for it, either. But that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Options in and out flows can have an indirect impact on these funds — so a low volume fund with no options might be a good bed for someone wanting crypto growth that’s a bit more slow and steady.

7. Franklin Ethereum Trust (EZET)

Conservative investors tend to favor Franklin Templeton. With a modest AUM of $34M and a 0.19% fee, this ETF offers a safer, grounded approach to Ethereum exposure. It’s also reasonably priced right now and has no options.

8. 21Shares Core Ethereum ETF (CETH)

Designed for the crypto-savvy, 21Shares’ ETF mixes the traditional finance vibe with DeFi exposure. A 0.21% fee and ~$16M AUM make this ETF a solid choice for believers in decentralized ecosystems. In our opinion, this is the second-best Ethereum ETF. While the volume and AUM are a bit low, the fee is decent, and there are no options. It’s by far the cheapest ETH ETF on today’s list — which could be perfect for a new investor without a lot of cash to burn.

9. Invesco Galaxy Ethereum ETF (QETH)

The Invesco Galaxy product is not the best Ethereum ETF available. But we wanted to put together a comprehensive list so users can mack up their own minds about what is the best Ethereum ETF. No options. Low AUM. Now volume. High fees. And a bit overpriced (in our opinion).

Reasons Why Ethereum ETFs Are Gaining Popularity

Believe it or not, you aren’t the only investor on the hunt for the best Ethereum ETF. Why have these financial products piqued the interest of investors everywhere? Here’s what makes them stand out:

  • Lower Risk: Say goodbye to misplaced wallet keys and rug pulls. What is the best Ethereum ETF? The one that won’t get hacked, right?
  • Regulated Access: These funds operate within structured, government-supervised frameworks. The SEC has had its issues in the past. But protecting our money in TradFi isn’t something we get upset about.
  • Easier Custody: No need for hardware wallets – the issuers handle the nitty-gritty.
  • Broad Accessibility: Trade them easily on stock exchanges, just like any other fund. Robinhood, Fidelity, doesn’t matter — they’re on every major brokerage and most of them have decent volume.

How to Pick the Right Ethereum ETF

Not all investors wear the same shoes (whether that’s sneakers or loafers). Start by asking yourself the following questions:

  • Expense Ratio: How much will ongoing fees chip away at returns?
  • AUM Size: Bigger tends to mean more stable — but on the other side of the coin (see what we did there?) we’re talking about crypto. Stability isn’t really a thing in this world, is it?
  • Spot Vs Futures ETF: Want direct ETH tracking or speculation-driven exposure? We didn’t cover any futures ETFs on this list. You can usually spot (we’re on a roll today) them by the name, often having the word “strategy” in it. Your brokerage may occasionally send a notification when a user clicks on a particular fund, informing them that it is a futures ETF.
  • Investment Style Fit: Is the fund aligned with your long-term investment goals?

Regulatory Considerations Before Investing

Yes, regulation can be annoying. But here? It’s your best friend. Verify SEC approvals, compliance with local laws, and the use of regulated custodians.

Remember, rules differ by country, so do your due diligence! Keep in mind that regulation adds legitimacy and shields investors from potential risks and uncertainties. Good luck out there. We hope you find the ETH ETF droid you’re looking for.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: What is the safest Ethereum ETF?

A: The “safest” Ethereum ETF is a bit of a loaded question — safety depends on your risk tolerance and the regulatory setup of the ETF. Generally, look for ETFs managed by well-established companies and regulated by credible agencies. Do your research. Remember, even the safest ETF won’t magically eliminate all the risks associated with crypto. All of these funds are directly tied to the price and, therefore, the price volatility of ETH.

Q: Are ETFs better than holding ETH directly?

A: That depends on your vibe as an investor. With ETFs, you avoid the whole key-losing, wallet-stressing, “oops where did my ETH go” nightmare because you’re dealing with a custodian. On the flip side, holding ETH directly gives you direct control — perfect for the technically savvy, decentralization enthusiast, or the eternally paranoid. Pick your poison.

Q: How do Ethereum ETFs avoid crypto scams?

A: Regulation, baby! ETH ETFs are overseen by authorities, ensuring things stay above board. Plus, custodians for these ETFs should (hopefully) have tight security to keep shady characters out.

Q: What happens to ETFs if Ethereum crashes?

A: If Ethereum crashes, ETFs tied to it will also tank. The value of an ETF depends on the value of its underlying asset (in this case, ETH). You can’t dodge the bullet here, though diversification in your portfolio might soften
